The full color Purpose Playbook guides participants through the four growing phases of Cultivate, Plant, Tend, and Harvest. Each week includes explanations and “challenges” on the weekly themes (see images below). Support and accountability are built in by having weekly buddies, as well as check-ins during the weekly Zoom calls.

I made the Playbook engaging and lush to appeal to both our senses and sensibilities. Sample pages from each of the four months are featured below.

From Month 1 (Cultivating)
From Month 2 (Planting)
From Month 3 (Tending)
From Month 4 (Harvesting)

WHY DOES IT TAKE A FULL SEMESTER?

The Purpose Program is 16 weeks in length – the same as a college course – for a reason.

Our experience has shown that people cannot achieve goals, and shift habits and mindsets, in a few sessions. The Purpose Program supports participants in going beyond dabbling to transforming the way they approach their lives.

MONTH 1: CULTIVATE. We begin slowly, using inventories, assessments and exercises to help make the invisible visible. We shine a light on hidden habits and choices that affect our wellbeing. We remind ourselves that “resilience is in our DNA” and start to explore the possibility that we can achieve more than we imagine.

MONTH 2: PLANT. As we gain courage and momentum, we begin to stretch our resilience muscles by trying out new practices and expanding our support systems. We learn about the science of sustainable habit formation, create a menu of nurturing activities, and explore the power of mindful mornings. We plant seeds of hope and optimism and care for the seedlings that begin to emerge.

MONTH 3: TEND. As we become more confident, we begin to tackle our weeds: the people and commitments that drain us. We work to create healthy boundaries and prune in order to make room for what matters most. This month takes some stamina and courage, and we support each other through connection, encouragement and humor. We enter the fourth month freer, lighter, and bolder.

MONTH 4: HARVEST. As we head toward the home stretch, we feel our power growing. We have gained skills, knowledge, wisdom, and support to tackle some tough stuff. This month, we begin to harvest all we have created. We leap in the direction of long buried dreams and goals. We support each other in taking bold steps toward our bucket list items. We end on a note of exuberance, positivity, and exhilaration, ready to launch into the next phase of our lives re-charged and re-silient.

Testimonials and Comments from 2021 participants

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

“…Thank you so much for the weeks of exploration together. I am in awe of the process and the fruits (both in seed form and starting to ripen) that have come…”

“Elaine, you are amazing! I’m so excited about the PLAYBOOK you created here… Witnessing your balancing of facilitation and participation was a highlight of my experience in this program.”

“Elaine – I love that you challenged us each week to do the mini challenges and you did them with us. You didn’t sit back and facilitate; you engaged in the work right along with us. The book – it is BEAUTIFUL and perfect just the way it is – even though I know you will make edits to it for next year.”

“I think it’s so great you did the program with us. I also appreciate that you were flexible each week when things didn’t always go as planned.”

“As I reflect back on our weeks finding clarity, intentionality, commitment, and purpose, I really appreciated the solidarity in our small group and I truly looked forward to our Saturday time together!”

“I cherish the time we shared and our explorations together, and continue to feel inspired by you all!” – note from participant written 8 months after program completion

TESTIMONIALS ABOUT THE WEEKLY CHALLENGES AND ACTIVITIES

“Since our meeting last week, I have been excited to come up with my words and create my poster. I don’t think of myself as creative in the artsy sense, so I thought this might be a challenge for me. Well, I did it!! I’m excited about my words and my goals….”

“I just finished reading the next chapter, Elaine, and I’m blown away.  There is so much clarity in the overall structure and in each section. I’m excited to print out the PDF so I can highlight and make notes.”

“I have noticed, because of the intentionality in the program, myself doing things daily rather that just thinking about doing things someday. Not big things, but small, noticeable things – because I’ve captured some unstructured moment. Yoking a few self-care habits together is also coming along without me being stressed about it like in self-care/improvement ventures in my past.”

“… I just want to check in with deep gratitude for my small group. So much of what you all have shared has resonated loudly with me. I am feeling inspired and look forward to sitting with you all in ‘circle’ on Saturday.”

“I love the ‘Boldness’ theme especially around the date ‘March Forth’! It helped me write a difficult email to a colleague. Thank you for the nudge!”
